Abel “Cannon Ball” Stukes died on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, at McLeod Clarendon Hospital in Manning, South Carolina.
He was born July 12, 1949, in Summerton, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Ladson Babe and Katie-Lawson Stukes. He received his education in the public schools of Clarendon County. He joined Historic Liberty Hill AME Church at an early age; and after his joining his hand in marriage to Brenda Langley, he moved to New York City to become a part of the professional world. After years of hard-working, he and his three brothers go together and created a social club for relaxing and fun.
“Cannon Ball” was always a sharp dresser and no words could describe his dance moves. Stepping was his thing. Abel was a kind-hearted person and would give the shirt off his back if need be.
Abel leaves to cherish his memories, one son, Abel “Bam” Stukes, Jr., of Charleston, West Virginia.; one daughter, Asia Hill of New York City; one grand-daughter, Iesha Stukes; one grandson, Abel Stukes, III; four sisters, Ethel M. Stukes, March Stukes and Katie Bennett, all of New York City, and Roshell Stukes of Lumberton, North Carolina; three brothers, Lionel Stukes, Marion Stukes, all of New York City, and Lester Bennett of Summerton, SC; a favorite niece, Tarressa “Reat” Stukes, of Summerton, South Carolina and favorite nephew, Fabian Stukes, of New York City; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
