Carrie Mae Bowman, widow of John Francis Bowman, daughter of the late Ellen
Fordham and Emanuel Canty, reared by her stepfather James "Polly" Bowman, was born on March 28, 1936, in Clarendon county. She received her education in the public school system of Clarendon county.
Carrie was a lifelong member of Mt. Pleasant Union Methodist Episcopal
Church. Throughout the long term illness of her late mother, Carrie as sole caregiver remained faithful at heart when her church attendance was limited.
Carrie possessed a profound love for the shepherd's God placed over her as pastor. She was never ashamed to give praise and glory to God for her salvation which was evident in her home, doctor's offices, hospitals, and even standing at the gates of death. She was praising God and asked those standing around her bedside to pray with her.
She is predeceased by two brothers, James Earl and Emanuel Canty Jr., a grandson Derrick Bowman, an uncle Richard Brown, and two aunts, Earline Canty, and Elizabeth Brown.
She leaves to cherish loving memories her daughter Susan Bowman of the home, grandson Surenza Tyre Bowman (Deon Williams), Sumter SC, two special great-grandchildren, Ka'nyah Bowman and Kashmere Wells, and four additional great-grandchildren. A sister, Diane Canty (Wilbur) Scott of Wilmington, NC; two brothers, Freddie and Ronald Canty of Wilmington, NC; two daughters through love, Katie G. Williams and Pearline Robinson; a goddaughter, Patricia Bowman Smiling; aunts Rosa Belser of Summerton, SC, and Ellanora Bowman of Syracuse NY. Special cousins Lou Ann Brown of Summerton, SC, and Richard Brown of New York, NY. Special friends Chris and Wendy Codgill, Mrs. Shirley Codgill, Betty Wells and Kellie Wells. Caregivers Mother Yvonne Dow and Mrs. Louise Lawson-Gamble, and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
