James Holland was born on March 30, 1942 in Pinewood, South Carolina. He was the third child born to the late Linzey Sr. and Manda Benbow Holland. On Friday, April 6, 2018, James departed this life as peaceful as he lived, at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia, South Carolina. James was educated in the public schools of Sumter County.
In his youth, he united his membership with St. Baptist Church in Pinewood, and was a fervent member. James was employed as a Tile Setter and Security Guard, until his health declined.
He will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, James was also preceded in death by his wife, Maggie Singleton Holland; one granddaughter, Ashley Shawnta Felder and two sons-in-law, Kahlif Hadi Salam and Andre Felder. He leaves to cherish his memories his fiancée, Willie Lee Dixon of the home; three sons, Willie Lee (Kimberly) Singleton, Al (Cindy) Green both of Sumter and Roger (Ruthie) Kennedy of Missouri; five daughters, Wanda Felder, Barbara Johnson, Carolyn Salam all of Pinewood, Victoria (Billy) Jones of Thomasville, North Carolina and Stephanie (Bernard) Smith of Sumter; grandchildren that he reared as his own, Calvin and Jessica Singleton, Tiffany, Leroy and Antwan Felder and Kenyell Lang; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; special daughters, Mary L. Wilder, Virginia Conyers, Evelyn Smith, Doris H. Williams; special son, Curtis Dixon; brothers, Lee Ernest (Edie) Holland of Paterson, New Jersey, Linzey Holland Jr. of Sumter, David Robinson of Summerton, Raymond (Ella) Holland of Pinewood and David Lee (Vanessa) Holland of Brooklyn; adopted brother, Marvin (Gloria) Clark of Sumter; sisters, Odie Baines of Beaufort, Virginia Singleton, Rosa Mae (Willie) Capers, Marilyn Holland all of Pinewood and Anita (Ray) West of Albany, Georgia; a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and close friends.
