Mamie Rivers Jefferson was born on May 25, 1947 in Clarendon County, Summerton, SC to the late Esau and Esther Rivers. She was the fourth of six children. She departed her life on March 26, 2018 at Palmetto Baptist Hospital in Columbia, SC. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Curtis Jefferson, a brother Moses Rivers, and twin sister Mattie Rivers.
Mamie was a woman with a heart truly made from gold. She nourished everyone around her with love, compassion and laughter. Mamie lived a selfless life. Mamie enjoyed spending quality time with her family and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
After graduating from Scott’s Branch High School in Summerton, she moved to New York. She worked at Bedford Daycare until she retired.
She is survived by her daughter, Tracey Rivers of Brooklyn, NY; grandson, Marquel Rivers, and granddaughter Amber Rivers, both of Brooklyn, NY; her supporting and loving siblings Hattie Williams of Summerton, SC, Mary (Alfonzo) Waller of Brandywine, MD, and Henry (Stella) Rivers of Summerton, SC; three brothers in law Prentiss (Gloria) Jefferson of Rialto, CA, Denson Jefferson of White Plains, NY, TJ (Carolyn) Jefferson of Taylorsville, MS and two sisters in law Girtha Ree (Julius) Beavers and Rose Marie Barnett both of Paulding, MS; two goddaughters, Crystal Waller of Baltimore, MD and Raven Thames of Missouri City, TX; an aunt Maglean Moultrie, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
