A  Time to be Born

Natretta Ann Simon affectionately known as “Retta” was born April 6 ,1969 in the Summerton community of Clarendon County to Nathaniel Simon and Deloris Dow Simon. 

A time to Learn

Retta received her formal education in the public schools in Clarendon County and graduated with the Scott’s Branch High school class of 1987 where she was known as “ Superstar” because of her great performance in basketball. For one year she attended Morris college in Sumter, South Carolina.

A Time to Serve

“Retta” as a young child joined New Light Missionary Baptist. Later in her life she accepted Christ as her personal savior at St. Matthew African Methodist Episcopal Church in Summerton, south Carolina.

A Time to Work

She was formerly employed at Federal Mogul, Summerton, South Carolina and the 301 Animal Shelter.

A Time to Rest

On Thursday, October 8, 2020 Natretta Ann Simon “Retta” , transitioned from life to eternal rest at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital in Sumter, South Carolina. She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Robertha Oliver (Leroy) Dow and her paternal grandparents Joe (Julia) Simon.

A Time to Mourn

She leaves to cherish her memories her mother, Delores D. Simon (Sampson Oliver), her father, Nathaniel Simon, and her son, Justin L. ( Shaquana) Simon of Atlanta, GA; two grandchildren—  Jillian and Jace Simon of Atlanta, GA; two sisters— Marcella Junious of Gorton, CT, and Patricia (Carey) Nelson of Owings, MD; one step-brother, Sampson J. (Shalonda) Oliver of Raleigh, NC; one step-sister, Gloria J. O. (Jeffery) Carpenter of Kensington, MD; seven aunts— Sallie Mae (Arthur) Dingle, Romell Dow both of Summerton, SC; Clotell Dow Davis of Fayetteville, NC; Leah (Leondria) Boatwright of Silver, SC; Jacqueline (John) Jackson of Sumter, SC; Dorothy Mae Reid of Panola, SC; Deloris Simon of Hartford, CT; Three uncles— Leroy Dow, Jr. of Columbia, SC; Willie Edward (Kimberley) Dow of Summerton, SC, Ricky Simon of Panola, SC; one Goddaughter Natvetta Dow; and a host of other family and friends.
